Waitemata NDT
Whether you require quality‑assurance inspections during manufacture or an assessment of service damage following an incident, we can provide a reliable and independent evaluation. Using state‑of‑the‑art ultrasonic flaw detectors, we deliver detailed reports outlining any detected discontinuities and their significance.
Waitemata NDT was founded in January 2024 by Simon Turner.
Simon began his career in the UK, learning composite manufacturing within a Formula 1 team environment before relocating to New Zealand to pursue an opportunity in the marine industry. As carbon fiber pre‑preg materials became increasingly prominent in high‑performance yacht construction, he spent five years with Marten Yachts and Marten Spars before the company was integrated into the Southern Spars group.
At Southern Spars, Simon became involved in the company’s R&D program, contributing to technically demanding projects such as EC6 LEF prototyping, the development of Thin Ply Technology and materials testing to ASTM standards. During this time, he was also introduced to ultrasonic inspection—a skill that evolved into more than a decade of hands‑on experience in carbon fiber laminate quality assurance.
Now operating independently, Simon brings more than 25 years of composite manufacturing experience together with his ultrasonic inspection expertise. These capabilities underpin his ASNT 9712‑certified third‑party NDT inspection services.
